26 shows from 2 August to 4 September: the Segesta Festival kicks off

August 2 - September 4

Ancient theater of Segesta

The Segesta Teatro Festival, the performing arts program under the artistic direction of Claudio Collovà, will start on 2 August, which will take place until 4 September in one of the most fascinating parks in Sicily: the Segesta Archaeological Park, between the Ancient Theater , the Aphrodite Urania Temple and the neighboring municipalities surrounded by vineyards and hills (Calatafimi Segesta, Contessa Entellina, Poggioreale, Salemi and Custonaci).

Twenty-six shows, 7 of which are national premieres, for over a month of multidisciplinary programming including theater, dance, music, poetry, installations, shows at dawn and nights staring at the sky, special projects, popular events and meetings. From Virgilio Sieni to Salvatore Sciarrino, from Roberto Latini to Mimmo Cuticchio, from the Compagnia Zappalà Danza to Mamadou Dioume, from Anna Bonaiuto to Giorgina Pi, passing through the Whirling Dervishes of Damascus and the Cuncordu and Tenore of Orosei, Massimo Cacciari and Umberto Galimberti. And much, much more.

It begins on 2 August outside the Park, to underline the desire to be a widespread festival in the area: at the Vivona Belvedere in Calatafimi Segesta the new generation “cuntista” Gaspare Balsamo presents Omu a mari. Il cunto delle sirene, then repeated on 23 August in Salemi and on 30 August in Contessa Entellina.

The programming at the Archaeological Park opens on August 3 with Supersonus, a concert by the German harmonica singer Anna-Maria Hefele focused on natural harmonic sounds.

On 4 August it will be the turn of PPP 3% of Teatri Uniti / Casa del Contemporaneo, the first of three projects that the Segesta Teatro Festival dedicates to the most important, scandalous and controversial Italian intellectual of the twentieth century, Pier Paolo Pasolini, on the centenary of the birth of he.
The Festival is promoted by the Sicilian Region – Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity – and by the Archaeological Park of Segesta, with the executive production of Panastudio Productions.
