Radicepura Garden Festival
1 April 2021 - 31 October 2021

INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
The Radicepura Garden Festival is the first international event dedicated to garden design and landscape architecture in the Mediterranean that involves major players in landscape, art and architecture, young designers, scholars, institutions and businesses. The Festival is biennial and takes place for 6 months inside the Radicepura botanical park where Il Cavaliere Venerando Faro (Founder of the Piante Faro nursery) highlights his historical experience in international horticulture, pouring his passion into 5 hectares of land, Set between Etna and the Ionian Sea, with 3000 species of plants for a total of 7000 varieties, creating a real living archive of experimentation and training.
The Festival, organized by the Radicepura Foundation, was born in 2017 with the aim of enhancing nature, as an engine of development for the whole world, through initiatives, events and cultural languages: from music to artistic installations, from botany to food and wine tours. It wants to demonstrate the infinite potential of a unique territory with climatic peculiarities, a rich and productive land both at the territorial level and in its cultural components. Cradle of our civilization, the Mediterranean Sea is now again at the center of world events and its essence becomes the heart of the Festival: the celebration of the garden, not only in its aesthetic-cultural value, but also for its role as an ideal place for stop your gaze on the beauties, in this case, of the Sicilian Region.
GARDENS FOR THE FUTURE
Increasingly, in the international debate on the fight against climate change, green environments are recognized as precious and effective resources capable of naturally lowering the air temperature and helping to improve its quality.
The gardens are thus recognized as having the ability to repair, that is, to protect and defend against harmful elements, also becoming a healing element as well as a source of refreshment and peace. Designing and creating the gardens of tomorrow means imagining the future of man and cities and it is with this goal that Radicepura Garden Festival launches the third edition of the festival which will take place in Giarre from June to December 2021, exploring the theme of “GARDENS FOR THE FUTURE”.
What will the functions of the garden be in the near future? Repair environmental faults? Be an additional resource of food? What role will the plants be assigned? What will the gardens be like? Place of refreshment for spirituality? The next biennial aims to provide answers to highly topical issues starting from the urgency of sustainable development, in an economic, environmental and social key, a paradigm that defines the Millennium Development Goals of Agenda 2030.
