This year the long awaited 43rd edition of the Infiorata di Noto will take place from 13 to 17 May
In Sicily, every year, the third Sunday of May is dedicated to the Infiorata di Noto (SR), considered one of the most beautiful events on the island.
During Covid, access to the public was not allowed but this year, in compliance with safety regulations, the event will take place from 13 to 17 May and will be dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of the recognition as World Heritage Site of the 8 late cities. baroque churches of the Val di Noto.
The Infiorata is an event organized by the city of Noto, in the province of Syracuse, and takes place every year on the third Sunday of May.
This event began thanks to the meeting between some flower masters from Genzano and others from Noto. It is good to know that this new form of art was born in Genzano (RM) more than 200 years ago, when on the occasion of Corpus Domini, devotees sprinkled the journey they traveled with flowers.
The Via di Noto dedicated to the Infiorata is Via Corrado Nicolaci, on top of which is the Church of Montevergini which contrasts with the splendid Palazzo Nicolaci with its baroque balconies considered among the most beautiful in Sicily. (see image in photo).
This year, for the first time, the event will take place over five days (from 13 to 17 May) and will be dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of the registration to the World Heritage Site of the 8 late-Baroque cities of the Val di Noto: Caltagirone, Noto , Ragusa, Catania, Scicli, Modica, Palazzolo Acreide and Militello Val di Catania.
In via Nicolaci, the fulcrum of the Infiorata, 16 sketches will be created, two for each city, thanks to the work carried out by the Noto associations and scouts. To create this immense carpet of flowers, about 700 square meters in size, 400,000 flowers will be used (perhaps more!).
But the real novelty of this year is that to allow everyone to safely attend the event, there is an entrance ticket for non-residents, equal to € 2.50, which can be purchased online or directly on site in the various dedicated info points.
In addition to rushing to admire the “infiorata” work of art, the many visitors will be able to attend the parade of the historical Baroque parade, moments of entertainment and shows, as well as take the opportunity to visit museums and churches of this splendid Baroque city, World Heritage Site. ‘Humanity, which in recent years has acquired more and more interest, becoming one of the destinations not to be missed during your stay in Sicily.
