The sunset at the salt marshes of Marsala is an experience to live at least once in a lifetime

Today we leave for Marsala, discovering western Sicily, steeped in history, small businesses full of tradition and enchanting shows donated by nature. We start our weekend by meeting Gianfranco and his mother Maria, who welcome us in their little corner of paradise, a mixture of nature, peace, creativity, tradition, and hospitality.

Everything starts under a small wooden pergola with white curtains that flutter in the warm morning wind, enjoying a good coffee and homemade cakes. Our tour of the property begins and Gianfranco tells us about the family vineyard, a unique place overlooking the Stagnone, where you can experience magical moments, from the aperitif at sunset, to romantic moments that culminate with the “ Will you marry me? ”. Each harvest turns into a harvest festival, with vats full of grapes crushed barefoot by women, music, and lots of good food. They show us their vegetable garden and how they transform waste materials into bioenergy. Love and respect for nature are evident in every breath of this family.

The desire to see what surrounds us is great and so, after a super-fast lunch, we take a tour through the streets of the historic center and then land on the beaches of Marsala, where, the wind becomes the cradle of kitesurfing, a sport so loved by many young people. In the evening we decide to enjoy the wonderful sunset at the Stagnone, a fixed stop for those who come to Marsala … there are no words that can describe what can only be perceived with the eyes, a show of colors. After a long satisfying day, we retire, cradled by a sky full of stars.

Our journey continues the next day, to pay a visit to two great families rich in history and tradition that for centuries have produced a liqueur wine known all over the world: the marsala wine. The family traditions are intertwined with the history of Italy and, thanks to these, we begin our walk among immense barrels that release acidic perfumes that inebriate the senses. But the discovery of the territory does not end here and after a few kilometers, we arrive in Mazara del Vallo where Giovanni awaits us, at a winery that is nestled within a beautiful natural reserve from which it takes its name. After telling us the story of the company and the family, and letting us admire the reserve from above, Giovanni accompanies us on a visit to the cellar, full of excellent and fine wines. During our tour, the head of the family arrives and with her warm hospitality makes us feel at home. In her is reflected the family passion, which turns into love for their vineyards and for the place to which they belong.

But like any good trip, the time comes to return home, after a weekend full of stories and traditions that have enriched our 5 senses!!!

We are ready for a new experience... and you?
